Ingrid Tan Wander

My work is about relationship between people, animal and nature. The complexity of the composition lies primarily in the playful, affectionate interaction, and the imaginative power of the creative process that is purely Romantic. Romantic is a reference to romances, tales of sensous adventure and chivalrous sentiments.

Part of the creative process is the challenge of the unknown, searching for images by drawing, or moving and layering the paint to discover psychological features in people or animal to create a moving and emotional response. My goal is to create images which resonates beauty in a neoclassical sense but aesthetically contemporary. Like playing a musical instrument, the notes should be varied for the piece to be interesting. I try to emulate this same sense of excitement, calmness and poetry in my paintings.

Metaphor is also an important component of my work. Creating images which is mysterious but common, it is like watching the ocean with its tides changing daily in relationship to the gravitational attraction to the moon and the sun. The same beach is carved over and over again into various forms and revealing its many beauty.
